The Capital District Fly Fishers, while not having a brick and mortar headquarters, holds it meetings regularly at the VFW Post 8692, 140 VFW Drive, Colonie, NY on the third Wednesday of the month - September thru May. Our meetings start at 6:30 with a featured fly tiers corner and the formal meeting gets underway at 7:00. The meetings generally include a guest speaker who typically discusses some aspect related to fly fishing (flies, fishing techniques, types of fish etc.). The Capital District Fly Fishers has a long history of passing on the tradition of the long rod, thru fly tying classes, casting clinics, and public demonstrations such as those at the Saratoga County Fair.
Our nation was founded by like-minded individuals who shared ideas and resources to achieve their goals. Similarly, the Capital District Fly Fishers is comprised of like-minded individuals who share a passion for fly fishing, fly tying, conservation, the environment, and educating the public about our sport. The Capital District Fly Fishers came to be in early 1977 from the efforts of several dedicated individuals, and celebrates over 32 years of existence and service to New York State and the Capital District’s fly fishing community. Its members share the belief that fly fishing is not only the most conservative way to practice the sport, but it is also the most fun. We believe that it can be cost effective and need not cost a lot to get started. Towards that end, the primary activity of the Capital District Fly Fishers is the teaching of fly fishing skills, fly tying, the ethics of angling and the stewardship of our resources. The club keeps our members informed with its own publication, The Backlash. It is sent to all members of the Capital District Fly Fishers nine times a year, keeping our members up-to-date on fly fishing news, upcoming events, and more.
If you are reading this your urge to fish likely runs deep and you probably fish as often as your schedule allows. We invite you to wade a little deeper and get involved by joining our club.
